ZiMT - Certifiable integrated medical technology and IT systems based on open communication standards in the operating room and clinic

The aim of the ZiMT project is to develop basic concepts within the pre-competitive field of medical technology research and the development for the secure and open integration of medical devices in operating room and clinic and to synchronize them with current national and international standardization activities. The integration of (computer-assisted) medical devices in the operating room and the interaction of these devices with medically-approved software is a particular challenge for the information- and communication-technology in the medical context.

Specifically selected enterprises from North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW) and associated industrial and research partners will develop an integrated OR system, including inter alia a central (surgical) workstation. The goal is the establishment of a NRW network for the sustainable further development and continuation of the technologies and standards in the field of integrated operating theatres on the basis of an open communication standard. In Aachen, for the first time, project-relevant (medical device) developments will lead to the establishment of a reference-, training-, test- and demo-center.

This project is funded by the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRE) and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia.
