Collegiate Theses

The knowledge gained in lectures and practical courses should be applied to answer open questions in different supervised research and development tasks.

Medical Ph.D. Theses are supervised together with our medical partners from Aachen University Hospital.

We offer the following research and development tasks:

Further research and development tasks are avialable. Ask our Staff at the Chair for Medical Engineering.

Practical courses

Laboratory on Foundations of Biomedical Engineering for Electrical Engineers (Biomedizinisches Grundlagenpraktikum für Elektrotechniker):

Internships and vacancies:

The chair has a wide range of industry contacts.

If you are interested in an intership in medical engineering, perhaps our links and, if applicable, our collection of external job offers may help you. If you have any further questions, please make an appointment with the student advisory service of medical engineering.

Field Trips

Field Trip Medical Engineering

In the field trip week (week after Whitsun), the Chair of Medical Engineering generally offers a 2-3 day field trip for students of RWTH Aachen University to medical engineering companies every year. In the archive you will find reports on field trips from previous years. Students of RWTH Aachen University are eligible to participate, with particular preference given to applications from students majoring in Medical Engineering. Announcements of the respective field trips will be made in particular during the lectures.

A qualified field trip report and presentation are required for the acceptance of the participation as a course credit within the framework of the Master's program "General Mechanical Engineering". These should:

  • highlight the engineering science and technical background of the visited companies and their products
  • address the application, functions and technical specifics of the products
  • show how technologies are used in production and products (for example, manufacturing engineering, materials, specific requirements, ...)
  • shed light on the background of the companies and, if applicable, competing products

A summary of the insights and experiences gained during the field trip completes the report. It is recommended to start the field trip already prepared by doing your own research on the visited companies in order to be able to ask specific questions and collect information and notes during the field trip on site. The field trip report should be 10-max. 20 pages including a list of sources. The presentation should last 10-15 minutes and be done using PowerPoint slides. An appointment for the presentation (please bring your own laptop!) can be made via the secretary's office of the Chair.

For approval, please fill out this form and have it signed after submitting your field trip report (with name, student number and signature) and after your presentation.
